Students Recycle Electronics

Hundreds of school pupils from more than a dozen Shropshire schools have recycled over 10.5 tonnes of electrical items, as part of a competition organised by Shropshire Council and Veolia Environmental Services, in partnership with Shrewsbury firm Arbitel Recycling.

Now more schools are being encouraged to take part in the competition which encourages children and staff to bring their broken or unwanted electrical items from home into school for recycling.

The schools are provided with a free skip for a week which is collected by Arbitel Recycling, and the school who recycles the most will win a prize of £500.

The schools are also provided with support materials, so as well as recycling more, they learn about the importance of recycling and keeping waste out of landfill.

Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for waste management, said: “We are delighted to be working with Veolia and Arbitel to help local schools to recycle their electrical items. Thousands of individual items have been recycled so far, and one school – Hope Primary School – recycled more than two tonnes of electrical items in just one week. I hope that more schools will volunteer to take part, and that all the children will be inspired to recycle more.”

Alistair Brown, Arbitel Recycling’s Business Development Manager, said: “We have been delighted with the response we have received so far, but we want to remind other schools in Shropshire that it’s not too late to participate, so call us on 01743 295010 if you want the chance to win £500 for your school by recycling electrical items.”

The three recycling centers are located at Bidston Moss, Wallasey Bridge Road, Birkenhead; Greenbank Road, West Kirby and Mount Road, Clatterbridge. 

All of these Waste centers are open every day from 8am to 5pm except for Christmas day, boxing day and New year's day They all accept any materials consisting of cans, cardboard, garden waste, glass jars and bottles, paper, scrap metal, textiles, timber, tyres, white goods and electrical items.

My Healthy Green Mixed Vegetables

I always believe that I am a good cook but never found the courage of blogging it.Actually I came from a family who loves to eat and boasting each others specialty cooking during the weekend lunch together.

It was a secret competition among siblings while my father is reading the Texas News or watching Kevin Durant and my mother is busy on her backyard garden but since most blog hops is about healthy lifestyle I am showing you my hidden talent.

 It is very simple vegetable recipe which anyone can do it. You can cook this 10-15 minutes tops. Most ingredients are available in your local farmers market but make sure to bring your own reusable recycle bag in order to Help the World and avoid using plastic to avoid to much rubbish going to your rubbish clearance London service. 

Find any fresh cabbage,carrots,baby corns, broccoli,bell pepper,cauliflower,sweet onions and mushrooms or just buy those that are bountiful during that season.  

Chop the vegetable to your desire shape. The more color, the better it will look so make sure to add those red bell peppers.

Pour some olive oil in the pan and wait for it to heat up and add everything and keep on stirring so that all the vegetables will be evenly cooked. If you want you can add a little water ,oyster sauce and some flour to thicken the sauce but if you won't its OK. Add some salt ,soy sauce and pepper to taste. 

Make sure all the vegetables are not overcooked.It's best to cook it when the guest have already arrived or let them help by chopping those vegetables.

You can add leftover meat if you want like chicken, anything goes up to squid.

As a child we love crayons so much. We love its color and how it makes our drawing beautiful. Crayons can give life to the drawings no matter how ugly it is. One color of your crayons can make your drawings alive. But when it break and turn into small little crayon and we don’t use it anymore. We think it’s no use and then we buy a new one. 



Here’s good news, now It can be recycle.Crayons can be recycle  and turn to become new again. In US they collect the broken, unused crayons to send to the National Crayon Recycle Program Facebook page, which recycles old crayons and makes new ones. The recycling program so far has collected more than 81,000 pounds of crayons. They only not accept crayons which are made outside the states due to questions about the ingredients.

This would be a fun, fantastic and worthwhile project for schools where children use crayons in their school work. 

This is a good move to make the student become fully aware of their social responsibility. To recycle and reuse their things which they think is of no use to them. They can also share and give to the less fortunate their stuff which they no longer used.

Recyclarium-Educating The Youth About Recycling

A bright and colorful bus called "Recyclarium" will tour around New York City and teach children about recycling rubbish. This bus will hopefully teach children the effects of rubbish clearance in our environment.

The first stop will be the William Mc Kinley in the east village. The school has already made recycle success by reducing their rubbish to 85% through composting of food waste. Schools Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott thanks the students and the school for making it successful garbage program.

“This school is operating like a lot of our schools, really taking a look at how they recycle, how they conserve energy, how they put new menu options in place,” he said. “All with the goal of making life better for our student not just now but students moving forward in the future.”


Principal Darlene Despeignes is optimistic that the "recyclarium" will increase students awareness about recycling.


“We really want to get the children to have a really good sense of why they’re doing it and to feel a sense of purpose so they’re really driven to become life long recyclers,” she said.


The "Recyclarium" was created by Sims Municipal Recycling. More schools will be on the travel list of recycle this year so be sure to be ready and start recycling the waste.

Recycling Labels Causes Confusion In Recycling Bins

When Sandra Keil transferred to Arlington last year, she received a letter of warning of a hefty 50$ penalty if she continues to add paper in the recycling bin.

"I gasped," the Arlington, Va., resident remembers. "I'm a recycling expert."

Keil, an executive with recycling directory Earth911.com, was unaware that she needed to put the paper trash in bags beside the bins. "I was wrong," she says.

To solve this confusion a new sign will appear in different items this fall. The voluntary How2Recycle label will provide indicators if the product is recycled in most areas or not.

"There's a lot of confusion and misinformation about recyclability," says Anne Bedarf, who helped develop the label for the Sustainable Packaging Coalition of GreenBlue, a non-profit environmental group. "We want to provide information that's transparent and consistent."


The idea came from United Kingdom and was launched first on a laundry detergent by Seventh Generation and hand towels by outdoor-gear retailer REI. Other companies follow suit such as Estee Lauder, Costco Wholesale, General Mills' Yoplait, Microsoft, Orville Redenbacher, BJ's and Best Buy.

Others are skeptical with the new recycling labels.

"It may cause more confusion," says Keil, who argues that recycling varies too much from place to place. "It's really hard to have a standardized label when there's no standardized policy."

She says consumers want to know what they can recycle, not what most Americans can. She fears the label may lead to mistakes and higher local costs.

Recycling "is very tricky, and it's very local," she says.

The elliptical machines and fitness bikes found at Off the Grid, manufactured by SportsArt Fitness and PlugOut Fitness, respectively, are part of the fitness industry's push towards sustainability. They offer also self-powered treadmills, which consume no energy at all.

Off the Grid founder Eric Guilleminault got the idea from Adam Boesel, founder of the Green Microgym in Portland, Ore. and the inventor of the PlugOut fitness bikes.

Guilleminault also used recycled construction material and weightlifting machines when possible and installed bamboo flooring, a far more sustainable resource than hardwood. His locker rooms include dual flush toilets and low-flow faucets and showerheads to eliminate water waste, too.

Being a green gym who promotes eco-friendly machines is not a guarantee that they can survive for a long period of time. They have competitors that have many machines which are more appealing to the gym enthusiast than what they offer.

"This is really a case study," founder Eric Guilleminault said of Off the Grid. "If it works out then great, if it doesn't, at least we tried."

The important thing is they tried to at least help our problem with our environment. They believe that we should also give back to the environment by using an eco-friendly machines which is less harmful to everyone.

It is a great move for the Off the grid to introduce not only eco-friendly machines to the gym enthusiast but also they do make an efforts in recycling, reducing energy and water usage, using environmentally friendly products throughout the gym, and fostering green initiatives in the community.

APPLE and EPEAT Still Together For the Environment

The protest from environmental organizations,responsible citizens and loyal customers like San Francisco community who openly criticized and boycott their products have been heard and Apple now will be submitting its ELIGIBLE product to Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) certification program, except for the latest MacBook Pro Retina model.


Apple hardware SVP Bob Mansfield wrote on their Apple's website that they have heard their customers plea and will be returning back to EPEAT.




"We've recently heard from many loyal Apple customers who were disappointed to learn that we had removed our products from the EPEAT rating system," Mansfield said. "I recognize that this was a mistake. Starting today, all eligible Apple products are back on EPEAT."


The latest MacBook Pro Retina could never pass EPEAT certification since Apple sacrifice reparability and recyclability in which the glass screens and battery was glued and not screwed.




Gary Cook, senior policy analyst for Greenpeace International aid Apple was making a false choice between design and recyclability. Apple's exit from EPEAT as "a step backwards from what had previously been quite good environmental leadership," and noted that technology products should "last longer and be repairable."




In his letter, Mansfield insists that Apple continues to lead the industry in its environmental practices. "[W]e make the most energy-efficient computers in the world and our entire product line exceeds the stringent ENERGY STAR 5.2 government standard," he wrote. "No one else in our industry can make that claim."


Greenpeace  thinks that Apple Management is just all talk and that they have not followed what they have promise to use renewable energy for their Data Centers like EBAY and other companies.


In the long run  it will be beneficial for the environment since APPLE and EPEAT will try update their products and certifications.
