Chevrolet Supports Project to Help Truckers Avoid Idling

Chevrolet is supporting a project to help long-haul truckers avoid idling during rest breaks at truck stops through a technology that maintains a comfortable cabin temperature and powers a TV, laptop or microwave without emitting the carbon dioxide emissions that come from engine idling.
The IdleAir project is one of many innovative carbon-reduction projects across America where Chevrolet is making an impact on local communities, jobs and the environment. The brand is supporting various energy efficiency, renewable energy and conservation initiatives in its goal to prevent up to 8 million metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the earth's atmosphere. To date, it has secured commitments for nearly 7 million metric tons.

With Chevrolet's help, IdleAir can further expand availability of its engine-idling alternative. With the service, a driver pulls into an IdleAir space and installs a reusable plastic window adapter that accepts a unit connecting his or her cab to a heating and cooling air vent, TV, power outlets, internet and other conveniences. The truck engine can then be turned off, saving fuel, reducing emissions and keeping power on to the big rig's amenities.

"IdleAir enables drivers to enjoy a better environment inside and outside of the cabin, without the noise, vibration, and exhaust fumes from idling," said IdleAir CEO Ethan Garber. "By expanding access to this option throughout America, communities experience cleaner air, reduced noise pollution, local job creation, and an increased tax base for the local economy."

IdleAir users save a gallon of diesel fuel per truck per hour. Drivers typically rest at night, so IdleAir uses off-peak power and has begun installing solar panels on some of its overhead trusses to provide solar-powered electricity.

"Chevrolet's significant investment is driving innovation and encouraging unique ways for the country to sustain cleaner energy and, ultimately, reduce the effects of climate change," said Mark Kenber, CEO of The Climate Group.

Chevrolet was the largest corporate buyer of voluntary carbon reduction credits in the United States by volume for 2011 as tracked by Forest Trends' Ecosystem Marketplace, a nonprofit source of environmental news and data.

"If we want to leave the world a better place, we need to change the way we do things," said David Tulauskas, GM sustainability director and manager of the Chevrolet carbon-reduction initiative. "Climate change, population growth, urbanization and other issues require our industry to transform itself. We are going beyond our traditional scope of responsibility - building efficient vehicles - into these community-based carbon-reduction projects to help demonstrate our commitment."

Swansea Recycles after Christmas Celebration

Waste Clearance London-The established Swansea Council recycling group is encouraging the community to find a better alternative on their holiday waste than dumping it into rubbish bins during the holiday season like they used to in the past years.

Christmas trees, decorations, ornaments  and lights can be stored again for next year's holiday decorations to save money and reduce waste on landfills.

Leftover food, bottles and cans can be reuse or recycled to increase the recycling rates of the city and help reduce waste that can harm the environment.

Unwanted gifts and still functioning products can be brought as donation to the latest Corner shop at Llansmlet Household Waste Recycling Center.

Trish Flint, recycling officer, said: "The festive period is a time of year where a lot of waste is produced, but there are many ways in which you can take simple steps to reduce the amount of waste you put in your black bags and in turn, save money.

"Swansea Council, like all other local authorities, has to hit a Welsh Government recycling target of 52 per cent by March or face the prospect of significant fines. So we all have to do our bit."

All items at the corner shop are being sold for £1 each including electronics stuff and the proceeds goes to the educational workshop conducted by Swansea's recycling volunteers.

Waste Clearance London-West Sussex County Council and its waste and recycling partner Viridor have join with renewable energy company Living Fuels LTD to assist homeowners in  recycling their used cooking oil for energy use.

Citizens of West Sussex will be able to pour their cooking oil in collection tanks in nine household waste recycling centers (HWRC ) beginning this Christmas. There are already several collections tanks in 14 of East Sussex HWRC.

After the oil is collected, it is brought to Living Fuels recovery plan and process to become a bio-liquid called LF100.

The LF 100 then is then used for the sister company Living Power for  heat and power plants as a source of carbon neutral energy to provide the national grid for emergency power.

Bill Griffiths, Viridor’s National Recycling Manager, said: “Help make this year’s Christmas a greener one, and bring your cooking oil to one of the household waste recycling sites that are offering the service.

“The best thing to do is for people to put the used oil in plastic bottles, so we can recycle the container as well.

“Why not make the most of the journey by bringing along any other recyclable items left over from the festive season.”
Lionel Barnard, West Sussex County Council’s Deputy Leader, with responsibility for waste and recycling, said that the county’s recycling rates could be boosted if more people recycled their cooking oil.

He said: “In the UK, we are at the forefront of new technology with respect to recycling, which is illustrated with our excellent overall recycling rate of 44 per cent in West Sussex.

“However, we’re always looking for new things for people to recycle to help push this figure even higher, so are really pleased to be launching the service.”

Rob Murphy, Operations Director at Living Fuels, added: "Turning cooking oil into a chemical-free bioliquid results in higher levels of energy recovery than manufacturing carbon-hungry biodiesel, making our process the most sustainable use of waste vegetable oil.

He added: “[A]s well as providing a valuable source of renewable energy, recycling cooking oil can also help prevent it ending up in the sewerage network.”

Collection tanks for used household cooking oil will be set up at the following HWRCs:

Billingshurst
Burgess Hill
Chichester (Westhampnett)
Crawley

Top Reasons to Clean Your Home

I always look for reasons why I should help my mom cleaning the entire house and she made me realize that keeping our home clean would give us these advantages.
To – dos for everyone
Every time my mom asks me to help her cleaning, i am so confused on where to start. Everyone is required to help cleaning. So, I start with my room. I get to know what to do with stuffs in my room after the cleanup. So, if you want everyone to get responsible with their things and trash, you should make them help you in the cleaning. Bond with each other while cleaning, it will be over before you know it.
Lessen allergies

As for me who has allergic rhinitis, dust and other allergens should never be allowed in my room. I should keep my room clean every day or else, sneezing and watery eyes will get in my way. I don’t want to spend the entire day sneezing because of the accumulated dust in my room. If your kids have allergies or asthma, you should be keeping your home clean or you’ll be spending some of your budget on hospital bills and medicine.

No more whole day cleanups

If you keep your home clean daily, you don’t have to spend the entire weekend for cleanups. You can go on outing or do some bonding activities with your family. Spending a couple of minutes on wiping the tabletops and sweeping the floor will save you an entire weekend. So, don’t wait for your chores to pile up.

Welcome visitors

With a clean home, you don’t have to hurry picking up some trash on the floor or wiping the tabletops or worst, picking up those shirts on the sofa. Be prepared always, you wouldn't know if somebody from your neighborhood or family would drop by your house – you won’t have to be sorry that your house is full of mess.

Clean and healthy living

Every time I see the messy tabletops, I get so stressed. I want everything to be clean and in order. Having a clean home would not only bring you a good ambiance but, it would also keep you away from allergies and illnesses caused by the unseen microbes in your sofa or even in your bed. Always keep in mind, clean home, healthy living.

Another suggestion is a partnership between housing business owners and recycling volunteer organization to look for vacant      areas for the implementation of  their own recycling programs.

Edward Hobson , Deputy Director of Green Alliance said : “Doing the green thing is difficult for individuals in tower blocks because often they do not have direct control over their heating, power and waste collection.
